Course Objectives: he goal of this module is to provide an overview of illness and exclusion concerns in child care and best practice standards that nurses should use to provide treatment to children and guidance to parents and child care providers. After studying this information, you will be able to:
  • Discuss factors contributing to illness and infectious diseases in child care and early education settings.
  • Identify the national pediatric health and safety standards that are the basis for best practice recommendations for child illness and exclusion.
  • Discuss the rationale for evidence-based practice that guides nurses so that children are neither underexcluded nor overexcluded.
